Announcing Three New THI GSIs

Graduate Student Instructors Tackle “Futures”

Three Humanities graduate students will develop a new THI-sponsored course focused on “Futures.” The course is part of The Humanities Institute’s Questions That Matter project and is funded through the Expanding Humanities Initiative.

THI Programming throughout the 2019-2020 Academic Year will focus on the “Futures” theme, drawing from expertise around the Humanities division and beyond. Our new cohort of Graduate Student Instructors will develop an undergraduate course curriculum that invites students to consider a range of approaches to understanding and imagining Futures from environmentalism to science fiction.

Please join us in congratulating our 2019-2020 THI Graduate Student Instructors:

Courtney Kersten (Literature)
Kirstin Wagner (Literature)
Taylor Wondergem (Feminist Studies)

We are thrilled that two of this year’s three GSIs have worked in the community as THI Public Fellows. Kirstin Wagner was a 2017 Public Fellow for local literary journal Catamaran Literary Reader. Taylor Wondergem was a 2016 Summer Public Fellow for Cabrillo College. In addition, Courtney Kersten was an inaugural 2017 – 2018 Center for Innovations in Teaching and Learning Pedagogy Fellow. Read our 2018 interview between Kersten and Wagner here.

Previous THI Graduate Student Instructors developed undergraduate courses on Data and Democracy.

The Expanding Humanities Impact and Publics project of THI is supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and will create ongoing public programming and new opportunities for graduate students through 2022.
