Digital Art & Democracy: People, Places, Participation

Have recent developments in digital art led to new "democratic" spaces? Who constitutes a democratic subject in on-line digital space? What does a new politics of representation look like? How do race and ethnicity appear (or disappear) in such spaces? How can artworks constitute democratic audiences? Join scholars and artists as they discuss these topics and recent online projects. Graduate Seminar with Visiting Artist Carrie Mae Weems

The recipient of a 2013 MacArthur Foundation grant, Carrie Mae Weems is a photographer and video installation artist examining the complex and contradictory legacy of African American identity, class, and culture in the United States.
