Academic Publishing with Martha Stuit and Erich van Rijn

How do you choose a reputable academic journal to publish in? What are your copyrights? What is open access? Where do you find academic publishing support at UCSC beyond your program and department?
This event has two sessions: Oct 24, 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. via Zoom, or Oct 29, 3:00-4:30 p.m. in Graduate Student Commons, Study Lounge 204. Register below to attend either session.
As scholarly communication librarian at the UCSC University Library, Martha Stuit provides author services, which cover publishing theses, dissertations, and academic articles and books; open access; and copyright. She also serves as the library’s liaison to the Division of Graduate Studies. Prior to becoming a librarian, she was a journalist. Martha has an M.S. in Information from the University of Michigan.
Erich van Rijn is executive director at the University of California Press where he leads book and journal publishing operations. Erich has been with the University of California Press since 1997 and has held positions in marketing, sales, operations, and finance. Prior to joining the press, he held positions in marketing at Oxford University Press and HarperCollins Publishers.
This event is a Graduate Division Professional Development Event co-sponsored by The Humanities Institute as part of our PhD+ workshop series. The Division of Graduate Studies’ workshops are for current UC Santa Cruz graduate students and postdoctoral scholars and require an active UC Santa Cruz email address.
