Saturday Shakespeare – The Tragedy of King Richard II

Saturday Shakespeare in Santa Cruz Presents The Tragedy of King Richard II by William Shakespeare Aptos Library on October 4, 11, 18, 25 & November 1, 2025 at 10:15 a.m. in the Aptos Library Betty Leonard Community Room (in person or join by Zoom). The first hour will be a conversation with the scheduled guest speaker followed by volunteer read aloud of the play. This event series is co-sponsored by the UC Santa Cruz Shakespeare Workshop.

- Oct 4: Sean Keilen: Professor of Literature, UC Santa Cruz; founding Director of Shakespeare Workshop. Serves as dramaturg at Santa Cruz Shakespeare. Readings: Act I, Scenes 1-4
- Oct 11: Katie O’Hare: UCSC Graduate Dissertation on Shakespeare’s Henriad, which includes Richard II. She will begin teaching at UCLA in Fall 2025. Readings: Act II, Scene 1-4, Act III, Scene 1
- Oct 18: Jessica Kubzansky: Artistic Director of Boston Court Pasadena, author ‘R2’, a re-envisioning of ‘Richard II’, performed by SC Shakespeare in 2021. Readings: Act III, Scenes 2-3, Act IV Scene 1 to line 162
- Oct 25: Paul Whitworth: Professor Emeritus Theater Arts, UCSC. Began his career as an actor at the Royal Shakespeare Company 1976. Served as Artistic Director for Shakespeare Santa Cruz, 1996-2007. Readings: Act IV, Scene 1 line 163 to Act V, Scenes 1-8
