The Humanities Institute is pleased to be offering a fellowship for a UCSC humanities graduate student to participate in the Los Angeles Review of Books (LARB) Publishing Workshop this summer!

The LARB Publishing Workshop prepares Fellows to succeed in careers in the ever-changing, seemingly inaccessible business of publishing. From June 22 to July 24, Workshop Fellows will learn from the industry professionals shaping print and digital publishing today. Previous speakers include Rebecca Saletan (Riverhead Books), Jamia Wilson (Penguin Random House), Adam Levy (Transit Books), Christie Henry (Princeton University Press), Lori Dorr (The Paris Review), Gerald Maa (The Georgia Review), and Dana Isokawa (The Margins/Asian American Writers’ Workshop), among many others.

In addition to participating in lectures and workshops featuring over 60 speakers, Fellows will have the opportunity to join one of two practical tracks dedicated to magazine and book production. These will culminate in the publication of our online magazine, LARB PubLab, or books of their own design. Fellows will also meet one-on-one in office hours with representatives of presses, magazines, and organizations of their choice.

Applications close March 15, 2026.

Prospective applicants are encouraged to attend an online info session on February 5 (9 a.m. PST) or February 17 (5 p.m. PST). Learn more and apply on the LARB website.
