An Evening with the UCSC Dickens Project
January 30, 2014 @ 6:50 pm - 9:00 pm | Nickelodeon Theater
The Nickelodeon Theatre will host “An Evening with the UCSC Dickens Project” on Thursday January 30 in conjunction with the screening of “The Invisible Woman” film, showing at 6:50 pm. The film, which stars Ralph Fiennes as Charles Dickens, is based on the Claire Tomalin book of the same title, delves into the closely-held secret of Dickens’s love affair with the much-younger actress, Ellen Ternan. During this period, Dickens was also involved in a harrowing railway accident, and nearly lost the manuscript to his novel, Our Mutual Friend. The novel is the featured book for this summer’s Dickens Universe conference.
Dickens Project founders Murray Baumgarten and John Jordan will lead a discussion after the film, joined by Jessica Kuskey and Nirshan Perera. The event is open to the public. Students will receive a special discount of $3 off the normal admission.
