Graduate Success Initiative
The UC Santa Cruz Graduate Success Initiative (GSI) is a campuswide program that crosses all five academic divisions at UC Santa Cruz to promote a path to the professoriate by combining individual guidance within the academic divisions and their programs alongside centralized campus interventions. Graduate Success seeks to increase doctoral completion rates, provide writing support for the completion of projects, and create a sense of belonging for doctoral students through an integrated holistic support structure.
GSI features four interrelated programs: Career Pathways (CP) is a seminar program with an academic division focus; the Holistic Support Network (HSN) is a peer-mentor program that activates an ecosystem of academic and non-academic support; the Writing Labs (WL) are based in campus Writing Center housed in Humanities and will offer hybrid opportunities for students to work on identifiable writing projects via writing groups and retreats with faculty; and the Graduate Student Bridge Program (Bridge) prepares students for graduate work through a five-day early move-in program prior to the start of the first year of doctoral education.
