About the Center
The Center for the Middle East and North Africa at the University of California, Santa Cruz is devoted to educating our communities about the histories, politics, and cultures of the peoples who live in North Africa and the Middle East. The center is a unique resource for the communities of California’s central coast and those who study and work at the University of California, Santa Cruz. It sponsors events that bring students, faculty, staff, and the broader community of the central coast into conversation with scholars, activists, journalists, cultural producers, and those involved in the politics of the region. The faculty affiliated with the center research and publish on a remarkable range of topics that include politics, economics, law, the environment, art and film, literature, linguistics, archeology, the digital humanities, and the history of science. The center also possesses a particular strength in the study of the regions that comprise North Africa.
