Writing Program Pedagogy Workshop

The number of student veterans is rapidly growing, with more than a million currently enrolled in US colleges. Many institutions support veterans by promoting access to student services but overlook what actually happens in the classroom. What do we need to know as instructors about student veterans’ learning practices, literacies, and instructional needs? This workshop will enhance your cultural competence and provide new pedagogical tools to engage and include student veterans in our classrooms.

Dr. Brenda Sanfillipo is a lecturer with the UCSC Writing Program, Stevenson College, and Porter College. Her research focuses on representations of war since 9/11. In addition to her academic work and teaching on contemporary warfare, she spent five years as part of the Army community.
