“Selfie Suburbia: Whites Online in the Early Twenty-First Century”
Snapshot photography has been a means for white Americans to affirm their identities and collectively participate in circulating fictions about “normal” Americans that naturalize and legitimize ideals of whiteness. As whites became more precarious in the early twenty-first century, they adopted several new snapshot trends for signifying their enjoyment of increasingly fictional good life fantasies.
