Lecture: Carrie Mae Weems, photographer

CarrieMaeWeems-Roaming-When and Where I EnterPhotographer and video installation artist Carrie Mae Weems examines the complex and contradictory legacy of African American identity, class, and culture in the United States.

Weems will discuss her work and ideas, drawing on three decades of artistic activity. The recipient of a 2013 MacArthur Foundation “genius” grant, Weems has exhibited nationally and internationally over the course of her career.

Presented by the Art Department, Arts Division, Digital Arts and New Media, and Film and Digital Media. Cosponsored by the UC Presidential Chair in Feminist Critical Race and Ethnic Studies, the Office for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; Visual & Media Cultures Colloquia, and the Institute of the Arts & Sciences.
