Winter 2025 Anthropology Colloquium Series, “It’s Not Love, It’s Deception”: The Affective Politics of Law and Majoritarianism in Himalayan India with Radhika Govindrajan.

This talk draws on ethnographic research in Himalayan India to explore how majoritarian feeling creeps into the legal domain by exploring the contingent production of sentiment among state officials who legislate inter-religious relationships.

Radhika GovindrajanRadhika Govindrajan is an Associate Professor of Anthropology and International Studies at the University of Washington, Seattle. She is the author of Animal Intimacies: Interspecies Relatedness in India’s Central Himalayas published by the University of Chicago Press in 2018. She is currently working on a book manuscript that explores how the question of the village in contemporary India is tangled up with the political economy of sex and sexuality.
