UC Santa Cruz officially is a member of the Imagining America (IA) consortium. The Humanities Insitute teamed up with the Institute for Social Transformation and the Arts Research Institute to join IA.
The Imagining America consortium (IA) brings together scholars, artists, designers, humanists, and organizers to imagine, study, and enact a more just and liberatory ‘America’ and world. Working across institutional, disciplinary, and community divides, IA strengthens and promotes public scholarship, cultural organizing, and campus change that inspires collective imagination, knowledge-making, and civic action on pressing public issues. By dreaming and building together in public, IA creates the conditions to shift culture and transform inequitable institutional and societal structures. You can learn more about IA on their website.
As members, anyone with a ucsc.edu email can register for Imagining America events, including UC Santa Cruz students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
UC Santa Cruz students interested in public scholarship and/or artistic practice and activism can also apply for Imagining America student fellowships, including:
- The IA/Joy of Giving Something (JGS) Fellows Program provides an opportunity for undergraduate students who work with photography and/or digital media to participate in a year-long learning exchange that includes tuition support, project support, and opportunities for professional development. More information is available on the IA/JGS website. Applications are due on Friday, June 3, 2022.
- The Publicly Active Graduate Education (PAGE) Fellows Program invites graduate students to participate in a yearlong working group in support of collaborative art-making, teaching, writing, storytelling, and co-creating knowledge with and within community. We are very excited to be a part of the IA consortium and look forward to sharing more opportunities ahead!
