Regina Kunzel: “In Treatment: Psychiatry and the Archives of Modern Sexuality”

February 1, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Stevenson Fireside Lounge | Free

Regina Kunzel’s current project explores the encounter of sexual- and gender-variant people with psychiatry in the mid-twentieth-century U.S. Drawing on multiple archives, she argues for the importance of psychiatric scrutiny, stigma, and medicalization in the making of modern sexuality.

Regina Kunzel is a Professor of History and Gender and Sexuality Studies and Director, Program in Gender and Sexuality Studies at Princeton University.

The Center for Cultural Studies hosts a weekly Wednesday colloquium featuring work by faculty and visitors. The sessions consist of a 40-45 minute presentation followed by discussion. We gather at noon, with presentations beginning at 12:15 PM. Participants are encouraged to bring their own lunches; the Center provides coffee, tea, and cookies.

All Center for Cultural Studies events are free and open to the public.  Staff assistance is provided by the Institute for Humanities Research.
