Alexyss McClellan-Ufugusuku has been selected as one of twenty-five PhD students from humanities and humanistic social science programs across the nation to attend this summer’s Humanities Without Walls Career Diversity Workshop. The Humanities Institute put forth McClellan-Ufugusuku as UCSC’s nominee for the program from a competitive field of applicants.

Humanities Without Walls (HWW) is a consortium of humanities centers and institutes at 16 major research universities throughout the Midwest and beyond. Based at the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Minnesota, HWW is funded by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

This summer, McClellan-Ufugusuku and her cohort will attend a series of workshops, talks, and site visits to learn how to imagine possible futures and leverage their skills and humanities training towards careers in the private sector, the nonprofit world, arts administration, public media and many other fields. Minneapolis, Minnesota will serve as the primary location for workshop activities. The location will provide students with the opportunity to experience the vibrant humanities ecosystem that exists in the region.

McClellan-Ufugusuku has received several previous awards, including a 2021 UCSC Social Science Research Council-Dissertation Proposal Development Fellowship, and has played an integral role at the Okinawa Memories Initiative

Congratulations to Alexyss McClellan-Ufugusuku!
