On April 18th, 2023, the Humanities Institute was honored to welcome Aldair Meija, Cecilia Mendez, Carlos Molina-Vital, Mariela Noles Cotito, and Nelson Pereya for the event, “What’s Happening in Peru? Interdisciplinary Perspectives on a Structural Crisis.” This hybrid conversation explored the political and humanitarian crisis that has been occurring in Peru since December 2022, following President Pedro Castillo’s unsuccessful attempt to shut down Congress to avoid impeachment.
The event was led and moderated by Literature Professor Amanda Smith, Anthropology Professor Carla Hernández Garavito, Latino and Latin American Studies PhD Candidate Alejandra Watanabe Farro, and co-organized by THI Research Programs and Communications Manager Saskia Nauenberg Dunkell.
This event was presented by The Humanities Institute and co-sponsored by the Department of Latino and Latin American Studies, the Spanish Studies program, Arts Research Institute, and the Dolores Huerta Research Center for the Americas.
